So far, 2004 has brought great promise and mystery to all of our respective lives: we've landed a kerbillion dollar probe on Mars which transmitted eighteen uninterrupted days of Arizona landscape images. Also, for the first time in history a man named 'Jake' will helm a superbowl contender. Incidentally, Jake Delhomme is loosely translated as 'Jake of the Man'. Which is sort of like Agnus of God.
Lately there hasn't been a whole lot to report - the latest batch of demos that went circulating through the indie record world failed to generate any excitement despite constant referencing to mosfet transistors and germanium diodes within the songs. As a result we took a break from recording and playing and some interesting things happened along the way.
First, Scott Bennett finished a solo album under the moniker The Awkward Traces. The album was recorded by GBV producer Todd Tobias who also added keys, bass and drums. The album is exceptional and hopefully someone in the world will think so as well and deign it worthy of a proper release.
Second, drummer Jon Finley continues to play and record with his bizarrely titled project 'Jon Finley'. His live performances are incredible, just a man with a voice and guitar backed by a strange metal box containing mosfet transistors and germanium diodes. And a man named Jake.
I have started work on a side project as well recording in several locales with Todd Tobias and Paul Abbot as well as recording a few 4 track thingies. The project is called The Celebrity Pilots and should be ready for a release sometime mid-2004.
Joel McAdams has been recording at his new domicile in order to add some more songs to The All Golden catalogue.
Actually, that brings me to our latest endeavor - we're recording more songs with Todd Tobias in February. Isn't that enthralling? We're going to post most of what we have recorded already in rough mix form to give you an idea of where we're going with this thing they call music.
Hope this finds you well . . .
